Yuck, still not working, Kernel panic unknown device root(0,0) I'm going to try your method by copying the system onto my old internal 9.1 Gb (narrow drive) (which originally contained an HP RH 7.2 Alpha distribution). This may take some time as the kernel isn't built for that drive.... but the livecd for alpha will come in handy as an emergency boot disk...
