Hello, I just started installing Gentoo/Alpha 1.4-rc1 on my PWS, mostly reading the docs for x86 install guide. Is there any prelimenary version for Alpha installations? Most things have worked out fine, but now I'm stuck into booting from the disk directly. Aboot starts up fine, and Linux loads and boots till it tries to mount it's root filesystem. /dev/sda1 is /boot/ containing bootlx and vmlinuz /dev/sda2 is swap /dev/sda3 is the root filesystem (based on stage3 tarball) aboot.conf: 0:1/vmlinuz ro root=/dev/sda3 Booting halts with "VFS: Cannot open root .." and complain that sda3 can't be mounted. Since I couldn't emerge the gentoo-sources kernel (masked), I just copied the kernel from the boot cd-rom into /boot. Please hit me if this doesn't make sense. I also tried copying the kernel to /dev/sda3 and changed aboot.conf into the following line, but that didn't help. 0:1/vmlinuz ro root=/dev/sda3 Any help of pointer to more docs is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. -- fingerprint = A3C4 DE50 712D 4FA8 C564 4D96 5E06 C9CC ECFA 19C5 Open source advocate
