whoops, confused myself - last line should be:
aboot> b vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3

but really, the bit about running aboot interactively in the aboot 
section of the SRM faq explains it pretty thoroughly.

(fun hint: you can force aboot to run interactively by booting with "-fl 
i" from the SRM prompt.)
