furthermore, I looked at /proc/cpuinfo

cpu                     : Alpha
cpu model               : EV56
cpu variation           : 7
cpu revision            : 0
cpu serial number       :
system type             : Miata

just like an example from gentoo's alpha porting guide.
I thought I read that EV56 is a bad one.
