I have been using the AWUS036NHA with success and stability.

Driver is ath9k_htc (in kernel sources)

grep -i ath9k /usr/src/linux/.config
CONFIG_ATH9K_HW=m
CONFIG_ATH9K_COMMON=m
# CONFIG_ATH9K_BTCOEX_SUPPORT is not set
# CONFIG_ATH9K is not set
CONFIG_ATH9K_HTC=m
# CONFIG_ATH9K_HTC_DEBUGFS is not set

(sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-4.4.6)
