One more thing that hasn't been mentioned: there is now a binary kernel
package, sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel-bin. I used to configure the kernel
manually. The main reason was to get rid of initramfs, but since it's not
supported anymore and since I don't really have a need to customize it nor
I'm religiously zealous or paranoid enough about building everything
myself, I've decided that all this was a little bit of a hussle and
resolved to use of the precompiled package.
