Ionen's reply expands on the actual conditions but I'm not sure Bash actually documents any guarantees for this and the behaviour is not the same on non-Linux. (I first discovered this when porting to Hurd because for cross-compilation, it picks a bogus tiny value!) > > And should such justification be in the eclass (in-eclass documentation,= =20 > or possibly just in the git commit comment) itself or is the series cover- > letter alone discoverable enough in terms of people "archaeologically"=20 > looking for the reason it was introduced, a decade or whatever from now? Carrying on from above: I'd left it out because I didn't think we'd want to rely on it, but it is mentioned in the linked bugs. But this series is withdrawn anyway and replaced by https://public-inbox.gentoo.org/gentoo-dev/cover.1783701659.git.sam@gentoo.= org/. thanks, sam --=-=-= Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQEBBAEWCgCpFiEEJaa7iN2bdkxrVUHCc4QJ9SDfkZAFAmpSLSAbFIAAAAAABAAO bWFudTIsMi41KzEuMTIsMiwyXxSAAAAAAC4AKGlzc3Vlci1mcHJAbm90YXRpb25z Lm9wZW5wZ3AuZmlmdGhob3JzZW1hbi5uZXQyNUE2QkI4OEREOUI3NjRDNkI1NTQx QzI3Mzg0MDlGNTIwREY5MTkwDxxzYW1AZ2VudG9vLm9yZwAKCRBzhAn1IN+RkGp2 AQDgVz4I7F8+CbhleWSdhFBZzaoRiDBG+WW6OH132qrXvwD+I+l2AtbFib7VRZco ksacZ+o7v6c7+WHLbsQuzkb2kgw= =pcUH -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-=-=--
