I don't consider myself a n00b, but I'm not an expert either. However, I'm of the opinion that if you change the name and reflect that on gentoo.org then you'll not exactly solve any problems, only provide an additional route for n00bs to migrate. It might be in your best alternative interest to discuss among developers-only a new channel in which only the limited group have access for specific project-related discussions. It may not follow the "welcome-all-open-to-the-public" overall view, but it will certainly greatly reduce the annoyances as you near 2005.0... I pop in on #gentoo-installer from time to time, but I actually read the welcome message that says not to ask dumb questions and not to rely on the installer as a "finished" product. Were I a nosy and inconsiderate n00b, I'd simply migrate to the new channel the moment it was published to gentoo.org and persist in asking dumb questions. :) Just my 2 cents.
