AFAIK, /opt is supposed to be used for (mostly commercial) programs having their own installer (e.g. JDKs, JBuilder, etc.). "/usr/local" is the dir to be used for self-compiled binaries not being part of the distro. (If I understand the File Hierarchy Standard right). Greetings, Holger
