-IF- you type "emerge gnome" it will rebuild the -GNOME- package.

the gnome package is an empty list of dependencies for the rest of
gnome, + a note about how to configure the windowmanager.


to solve this :
emerge -e -p gnome

and pick the packages you want from that list, run :
emerge <package> on those

and they will rebuild themselves.


gnome, as is KDE, is a metapackage. That is a list of dependencies that
are there to aid you in installing gnome, so you do not forget to add
parts of the gnome distribution.
