What has happened is that one of the packages that you previously had installed is now masked out in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask Or, at least, that was the case for me. I was under the impression that this issue - wrto emerge [world|system] has been fixed in later versions of portage... Check package.mask for baselayout - you may want to comment out the relevant line. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Tom Caudron Sent: August 29, 2002 11:08 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [gentoo-newbies] emerge [world|system] dependency error? I performed an emerge --clean rsnyc and right afterward tried to emerge my world. I used the command "emerge --pretend --update world" (though I later found that I had the same problem if I do system and if I drop the --pretend). The result was an error. Specifically, the error is: These are the packages I would merge, in order. Calculating world dependencies | !!!Error: couldn't find match for || in sys-apps/baselayout-1.8.2 I looked in the build file for sys-apps/baselayout-1.8.2 and saw that the only "||" of significance (there are a few preceding the kill command) is near the beginning, where it says: RDEPEND="${DEPEND} || (>=sys-apps/gawk-3.1.0-r3 (!build?>=sys-apps/gawk-3.1.0-r3) (!bootstrap?>=sys-apps/gawk-3.1.0-r3) )" I checked in my /bin folder and found both gawk and gawk-3.1.1. I'm not even sure that this check for gawk is the issue, it's just a best guess. Has anyone a clue as to how I could proceed or where I could look to get resolve this? -Tom Caudron _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx _______________________________________________ gentoo-newbies mailing list [email protected] http://lists.gentoo.org/mailman/listinfo/gentoo-newbies
