Um, no. XF86 version looks for XF86Config-4 first and then XF86Config. There 
is no symlink that I know of. i.e:
kormoc@kormoc kormoc $ ls /etc/X11/
Sessions          XftConfig     de   it         rstart      wmconfig  xkb
XF86Config-4      app-defaults  fs   lbxproxy   startDM.sh  xdm       xserver
XF86Config-4.old  chooser.sh    gtk  proxymngr  twm         xinit     xsm
kormoc@kormoc kormoc $
