Kernel Config Trouble

Hi,

I've been trying to recompile my kernel to add some additional support.

Unfortunately, I didn't save off my old .config file.  After compiling several
kernels that won't boot I'm at a loss for what the problem is.

I don't have a good record of the changes I made.  I know, that's what lusers
do :-(

This is the boot time error I am receiving:

VFS:  cannot open root device "hda3" or 03:03
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:03

My working kernel has xfs support compiled in (not a module).  My hda3 partition
is xfs.  And thus, I believe my problem is with the way I have my xfs options
set in the kernel .config

/etc/fstab looks like this:

/dev/hda1        /boot           ext2            noauto,noatime          1 1
/dev/hda3        /               xfs             noatime                 0 0
/dev/hda2        none            swap            sw                      0 0
