problem with bzip2?

Hi,

I am stuck at untarring the stage?-*.tbz2 files, because bzip2
invariably reports bad CRC on all of them.  I am using the
gentoo-i686-1.2.iso image.

If I could be sure that this was a problem with either the CD
or the files, I would be more than glad to burn another CD,
but the files copy OK, and WinRAR uncompresses and untars
them without any fuss whatsoever, except for a bunch of "can't
create" messages for the A-Z sub-dirs of .../terminfo, obviously
due to NTFS case-insensitivity.

Why would bzip2 complain, and, what is more important, is
there a way around this?

I would appreciate _any_ comments.
