Howdy. I just installed Gentoo on my Dell development machine. I followed the x86 guide from the Gentoo site. A first note, I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I just want to make that clear :) On boot I get some errors. I see: ================================================== ( some messages ) * Activating swap... Adding Swap: blah blah [ok] /sbin/runscript.sh: XSESSION: command not found /sbin/runscript.sh: XSESSION: command not found /sbin/runscript.sh: XSESSION: command not found /sbin/runscript.sh: XSESSION: command not found /sbin/runscript.sh: XSESSION: command not found * Remounting root filesystem read-only (if necessary) [ok] * Checking root filesystem... fsck 1.27 (8-Mar-2002) fsck: fsck.xfs: not found fsck: Error 2 while executing fsck.xfs for /dev/hda3 [ok] * Remounting root filesystem read/write... [ok] * Checking all filesystems... fsck 1.27 (8-Mar-2002) /dev/hda1: clean, 26/26104 files, 8750/104391 blocks [ok] ( a few more messages ) /sbin/runscript.sh: XSESSION: command not found * Setting hostname to mtdev02... [ok] ( more messages, with an occasional XSESSION error as listed above ) * Loading module sg... * Failed to load sg [!!] * Loading module sr_mod... * Failed to load sr_mod [!!] ( more XSESSION errors ) * Bringing lo up... [ok] ( several more XSESSION errors ) ( some success lines, more XSESSION errors ) * Bringing eth0 up... * Failed to bring eth0 up [!!] ( a couple more success lines, followed by a final XSESSION error ) ==================================================== I attempted to follow the install guide completely. I did stage1, 2, and 3. The part that I suspect most was my kernel configuration. I added pre-emptable kernel and things suggested in the doc. I'm particularly confused by the XFS-related errors, since I specifically turned XFS off in the kernel, and I'm only using ext3 (for /boot) and ReiserFS (for /). Any suggestions? If I'm in really sad shape, tell me "go back to RedHat" if that's what I should do.
