Well,
I tried booting with the Gentoo 1.2 cd and it loaded the eata and scsi_mod modules! Here's a snippet of the dmesg:

So now I'm wondering if it would be better to do a full install from the beginning or use the running system I have now to get the scsi up? During the install I was unable to fdisk /dev/sda nor do I know how to use mkraid or any of the other tools provided. Any advise to get me on the right path?
