Use the Xfree4.2.1 ebuild from gentoo CVS (see bug #3735) then emerge 
glide-v3 *after* the Xfree build. 

The glide ebuild uses an ancient version of the glide library so you might 
want to install from CVS see http://sourceforge.net/projects/glide/ (as a 
comparison I get ~130 fps for glxgears with the ebulid version of glide and 
~950 fps with the CVS version)
