LOL, my Gentoo runs for about 4 months now.. and I still haven't set the partition type (that's why Grub won't install).
I noticed it while installing my second Gentoo PC with 'cfdisk' instead of Partition Magic (which I used to partitionate my first Gentoo PC :D).

But oke.. his problem could be more related to a drive placement :-)
