still stuck xf86config

Yesterday I wrote:

    
After emerg'ing gnome and having mouse problems in kde and gnome, I tried to run xf86config again, but all that I get is a fast scrolling screen saying "xxxx:command not found", where xxxx is an entry in the xf86config file.

What should I do now?

Someone replied and told me to:

    cat /var/log/XFree86.0.log | grep -A 10 "(EE)" | less

But when I do that I get:

     /var/log/XFree86.0.log: No such file or directory

I was also told to try to create an error log by entering:

    xf86config > ~/xf86config.error

But when I do that I get:

    I get a screen full of "xxx:command not found" as above

And when I try to read the error log with "less ~/xf86config.error"

    I get an empty file (no errors)

Can someone please help me with this?  I've been stuck on this one for 2 or 3 days.

I don't know enough about this issue.  After emerge 'ing gnome it appeared that XFree86 had been configured, which I don't that it was before with KDE.
Could there be a conflict between xf86 and XFree86?  I don't know how they interact or if they interact....or could this just be some kind of a Path problem.

Any help will be much appreciated,
