Boot problems on Dell laptop

In regards to the Dell C610 laptop hanging at "starting local" after a
fresh install of Gentoo I have resolved the issue, sort of. I emerged
and compiled the vanilla-sources instead of the gentoo-sources with the
same settings (actualy I enabled quite a bit more the second compile)
and the laptop booted fine. It would appear that one of the patches in
the gentoo-sources is causing a problem when booting my laptop. I
noticed several other topics similar to this in the Gentoo Forums as
well.
