When I was trying to figure out iptables, or probably chains, at the
time, I put up a page to sort of remind myself of what I was doing. A
few friends liked it and some folks new to iptables have found it
useful. (It has links to better pages on it.)

Though it says so on the page, the firewall being built there is for
learning purposes, not to be used as a default firewall. It's at

The idea is to give you the beginning info, so you can go on to the more
advanced links at the bottom of the page--skim through the ipchains
stuff though, since, as it's an old article, it goes more into detail on
ipchains, then explains how to convert to tables. 

HTH--also, the fellow skylinux who is linked to from my page is quite
helpful if one wants to adapt one of his scripts for something (though
it depends upon his workload)  :)
