For reference there's no need to double-post, when you post doesn't
matter. The only people who won't see it are those who sign-up for the
mailing lists /after/ you've posted.
I haven't seen that error reported anywhere else, nonetheless here are a
few ideas:
* Make sure your version of Portage is up-to-date:
emerge rsync
emerge portage
* Make sure your important system-apps are up-to-date:
emerge system
emerge clean
* Try setting "-j2" to "-j1" in your MAKEOPTS variable (see
/etc/make.globals). This turns off *parallel* building which may causes
issues with certain ebuilds.
* Try emerging "ccache", and trying again. If you have ccache already
emerged, then do the opposite: unmerge it and try again.
* If you have "alsa" as one of your USE flags in /etc/make.conf then
make sure you've emerged the alsa-driver and that everything is working.
If you're not building for ALSA, then make sure that flag isn't present.
* Make sure your filesystem is OK, and that your PC isn't overclocked.
If it still fails, run emerge with the --debug parameter and report it.
