I was reading through he archives and found several posts regarding grub installation problems. I too have this problem and am in search of what I need to do different to fix this. My first drive (hd0,0) is a win2000 disk and the second drive (hd1,0) is the gentoo disk. when running grub I got an error about unrecognized partition. This occurred when I tried to run root (hd0,0). What do I need to change here? My partitions are ext3 /dev/hdb1,3 and swap on /dev/hdb2. I think I'll have to boot from the installation CD and do the chroot commands listed in the install docs - right? I pretty new in to gentoo, but have played around with other distributions with some success. Should I be running root (hd1,0) in grub instead? The install docs seemed to lead me install on the MBR of the first disk. The archived messages seem to back this up. Any assistance appreciated. Steve W.
