grub config changes?

I put in some wrong info in setting grub, so changed the config files to 
the way I wanted, then did

ln -s /boot/grub/grub.conf /boot/grub/make.lst
spaces in the right places, l not 1, etc. But, I still get the old 
config options on reboot. I looked at the files in both locations and 
they are as I wanted them to be.

What am I doing wrong?
