I do this on a fairly regular basis myself, and always > end up feeling a bit sheepish :) I don't think, that I boot the wrong kernel, because * there is no older version (fresh installation), * "strings /boot/vmlinuz" returns 2.4.19 and I boot /boot/vmlinuz and * I'm sure, that I copy the new kernel to /boot/. Perhaps this other problem helps: I compiled DEVFS-support into the kernel but during boot gentoo tels me, that I have to compile DEVFS-support into the kernel?!?
