I did get it to compile. I did a emerge --sync and then it compiled fine ( I should have thought of that before I posted!). I did not note exactly what had changed (a lot of stuff had) but my repository was not THAT old; about 1 week prior to the incident. Here is the listing: # sudo ls /var/tmp/portage/gtkmm-2.2.12/work/gtkmm-2.2.12/atk Makefile Makefile.am Makefile.in README atkmm atkmm-1.0.pc atkmm-1.0.pc.in atkmm.h src Let me know if there is any other inforrmation.
