Error on Filesystem check

I get the following error on the filesystem check when my filesystems are being mounted on boot up: fsck.ext3: error while loading shared libraries: libcom_err.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. I get the same error when trying to run fsck from the maintenance mode. So I cannot boot into Gentoo. Not sure how long this has been broken since I hardly ever reboot the box.
