Re: OT: thermal management on tibook

hi list,

some time ago i asked about differences in thermal-management between
2.4 series kernels and 2.6 series kernels, since with a 2.6 kernel the
tibook seems to get a lot hotter than with a 2.4 kernel.

i then tried some older 2.6 kernels because i was told that the change
was made somewhere in the early 2.6 releases and not at the switch from
2.4 to 2.6. but even with the earliest 2.6 kernels the system still gets
very hot and the fan will run continuously.

i then booted macos (10.3.4 IIRC) and to my great dissapointment the
system stayed cool and the fan would only start running if the system
actually had something to do (like opening a so called "popunder" ad
with lots of bells and whistles in firefox).

this shows that there _is_ a way of keeping the system cool, even if it
is one of those rotten tibooks. but i don't want to use macos. or in
other words i just can't stand it (from my usability point of view it's
even worse than windows, despite the fact that it actually is a real
unix inside, but all that apple-gui-junk makes me puke my guts out).

now the actual question is: why is the thing getting that hot when
running linux? i tried anything from disabling each and every daemon,
shutting down the harddisk, disabling x, and still, even with a load
average of 0.00 and the harddisk turned off, the system's getting damn
hot and the fan would run continuously.

any help is appreciated!
