Hi All, Been working a bit on this project, thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Brett, good friend of Wade's, writer of doco, user of Gentoo since 1.0pre6 days (or around there). Anyway, I have set up a basic phpbb forum to discuss aspects of gentoo server administration. This is not a production server at the moment - I/we still need to find some moderators, add more sections/categories if need be, work on a logo and a few other things. I have had a few questions why not add another forum at forums.gentoo.org, but at the moment I'm trying to make these forums complement the wiki and allow people who are working on the project (coders/documenters/testers, etc) to provide feedback. The address for the site is http://forums.subverted.net This site is hosted on a 128/128K (sometimes 64/64K) ISDN link in the bandwidth-deprived Brisbane, Australia. mod_gzip has been enabled to provide you with a faster response time, incidentally, the wiki itself is running off a 128K link (not mine). I'd like to know if you think it's a good idea to provide the forums, and if so, what other forums/categories should be added, any tips, etc. Thanks in Advance Brett Henrich. P.S. if you want to see the effect gzip/deflate compression has bandwidth consumption, have a look at the wiki webalizer graphs http://www.subverted.net/webalizer/usage_200307.html Specifically, the 21st and the 22nd of July. On the 21st there was no compression, 25,580 hits with 113,771KB served. On the 22nd there was gzip compression, 34,006 hits with only 75,412KB served. Big difference eh? :) -- [email protected] mailing list
