Yeah I was going to suggest you try building the latest gentoo dist kernel 
and booting that to see if the issue persists, though I don't know how 
annoying that would be in your specific setup.

If it still doesn't work there, then at least you would know that it's an 
open issue and not due to some already-solved bug or unusual config in 
your current kernel.
