I prefer to use "diff -Nurb", sure it's an overkill as you don't need 
the recursive, but the combination is at least readable and those easier 
to remember.

For my sake you do not need to run the diff, as I wouldn't know what to 
really look at, haven't configured a kernel for many many years and it's 
been mostly like you did with make oldconfig and hit mainly 'n' every 
time it asked.

It's the end result that counts and also the amount of fun you had on 
the way to there ;)
Let's hope nVidia will not make some breaking changes for many more years...
