Yeah, the software was recently updated to a newer version. One 
thing to note: if email notifications are wanted, such 
notification settings should be reviewed via the username link in 
the top right, then "User Control Panel", then "Board 
preferences", then "Edit notification options".

i can't speak to the other things you mentioned, but as a 
forums-related aside, infra is currently having to deal with the 
onslaught of badly-behaved scrapers for 'AI', to the extent that 
this is sometimes impacting forum availability.
