Today you can purchase either 14th gen servers or 15th gen servers I believe.

The R940 has the most PCIe slots at 13.

The R7525  (AMD 15th gen server) does have 8x PCIe slots just like the R740xd/R740.

What is the modern equivalent of the R730, namely a machine with a lot of pci(pcie in this case) slots? Probably that would mean an AMD cpu.
