Yes, if I can get it back into being included in Debian then it would get
pulled into the next Ubuntu release. The faster and more flexible approach
may be to first get to the point of using a private package archive (PPA)
targeting Ubuntu and then working through the approval process of Debian's
packaging.

The previous maintainer, Robert Jördens, had a set of patches against
3.2.11 which meant it could be built into a Debian package. Some of those
patches, such as using udev rather thank mknod with absolute paths, could
be good candidates for folding back into the main source code. This would
make future packaging easier and hopefully be useful for people who build
from source anyways. I'll try reworking the patches onto the latest code.

The reorganization sounds really good. Also like it would be better if I
can get these patches integrated (where they make sense) sooner rather than
later.
