vmware is a virtual desktop pc -- it will create a virtual disk file on
the Linux partition and install XP to that. You can tell it to use an
existing real dis partition for its disk, but this is a bad idea if you
intend to dual boot. The effect will be the same as if you took your
XP-containing laptop hard disk and put it in a desktop to boot. XP will
detect a ton of hardware changes. Go back and forth a time or two and
the Windows install will be toast.
