What kernel "cocktail" for a PCG-F190?

OK, after a 2-year detour into NetBSD, I'm ready to re-load Linux on my daily-driver PCG-F190. It's the only BSD box left around here, all the other CPU's within reach have since been Debianised.

The reason I've held out, is that I spend many hours a day on this machine (mainly as an Xserver), and if it breaks, I'm screwed. Last Linux kernel that was on it was 2.2.something, and I had horrible power-management problems and random lockups on the thing, I switched to NetBSD out of desperation, and it's held up well so far. No suspend, but then I leave it on 24/7, and it's fine.

That said, I've got 2.4.21-pre6 running on most of my machines here. I'm going to load Debian on the Vaio, and need to know what ugliness I may encounter. I've got all the various Linux-on-a-Vaio web pages cached here, have read 'em, but many are out-of-date and of course some have conflicting information or about machines that aren't EXACTLY the one I have here.

- - Will I have the "PCI-says-USB-is-on-IRQ9-but-it's-really-on-IRQ10" problem? What hacks work around that?

- - APM, ACPI, or what? If ACPI (which I dread and fear), can I stick with the in-kernel version? Will suspend work?  Hibernate? Thermal throttling?

- - Any other gotchas I haven't seen yet?
