Using a CRT on PCG-GRX700

Hi,

I looked through the archives, but I haven't been able to find an
answer. I have a PCG-GRX700 and I'm trying to hook a CRT up to it (and
then eventually a projector), and I haven't been able to figure out how
to do it.

I'm currently running Debian sid, but any help with any distro would be
very much appreciated.

Currently, I have Xfree86 4.2.1 (debian version -8), and I've tried
using both the ati driver and the radeon driver.

I've tried hooking the monitor up before and after booting, before and
after starting X, and have had no luck either way. When I hook the
monitor up before starting, nothing displays on the monitor (though
eventually you can see refresh-haze on it), where as the boot as normal
occurs on the LCD, until X comes, when I get an error message (with the
radeon driver): "No valid mode found for this DFP/LCD".

Without the CRT attached at all, boot as normal, works fine.

Any clues would be really appreciated,
