Re: Using a CRT on PCG-GRX700

I have a GRX5P (asia-pacific)
(http://slowest.net/docs/reference/vaio/debian/) with Radeon 7500,
running Debian sid/sarge.

My VGA output works constantly, there is no situation where it doesn't. 
It outputs at the same res/freq as the LCD, thus while it is 1600x1200,
the freq makes all the monitors I've tried it on squeeze the image down
to the middle 2/3 of the screen or blow smoke out the back of them. 

Evidently I haven't got it detecting the VGA port correctly or something
of the like, or the radeon drivers are not doing their job correctly.

While I find this level of my ignorance convenient for VGA output, what
would I do if I actually configured it correctly? :)  I'd be in trouble.

I've had a bit of a play with Xinerama and have a valid config for it,
but the radeon drivers complain about duplicate Bus IDs and disables the
second screen - I don't even know if Xinerama is what I need to be using
- it just sounded cool ;)  I don't have the time to keep hitting it at
the moment, so it just stays as it is for a few more months :)

Either way I'm not happy with the radeon drivers and the 7500, the DRI
CVS trunk (last count 4.2.99-DRI) is the best I've got it - an
acceleration was extremely erratic, but with sourceforge and it's
chronic CVS issues I can't get the latest sources, and the native 4.3.0
radeon sources cause GLX things to seg. fault.

I currently get by with unaccelerated 4.3.0 with my current
it's-not-really-a-vga-port-just-ignore-it config :)

Is it possible my situation is unique to the 7500 and my config is
somewhat correct?
