Andersen, Tony, You seem to misunderstand the thread.... Mantel (Hubert Mantel) is SuSE's main kernal guy, and he does not "AIM" at sony or any other machine. He is the pricipal guy at SuSE who maintains their production and developmental kernels. ACPI, in suse kernels, is turned on at boot time by inspection of the bios. It its date is after jan-2001 it turns on acpi unless you over ride that with a command line boot option. In 8.2 it did not automatically start acpid, but acpi was enabled. This oversight may have been corrected, but suse approaches acpid as just another service you may or may not choose to load. It is not necessary to run acpid in order to obtain the irq routing that acpi supports - and which so many sonys require.
