The R505TS uses ACPI not APM for power management. If you don't use ACPI then a lot of things break, USB, etc, but your mileage varies with which specific model laptop you are using and possibly with which distro. The card very well may work with APM, but you won't have power management and your CPU may cook if your fan isn't hardware controlled.
