If only we could find two laptops with the either the same name or the
same label, it would help us understanding how it works. The second
being a code for the chassis would make sense I guess, but until we find
two systems with the same code, it wont be easy to proove.

In my decode-vaio script, I labeled the long name "Machine Name" and the
short name "Model Name". No particular reason to do so though, I just
had to find two different labels, and the second one is called "MODEL"
on the back of my laptop.

To answer the question on the web page, UC probably stands for "United
States and Canada", as you can see here:
http://www.ensicaen.ismra.fr/~delvare/vaio/eeprom.html
It looks like sony consider this both a continent and a country (though
it is neither).
