This suggestion generally falls under the category of UN-HELPFULL and is generally frowned upon on this list. SuSE is what he has, and SuSE is what he wants to run. If your Ford won't start you would be a little put out if the best advice anyone had to offer was to go get a Chevy. Further, your assertions are simply not true for the following reasons: 1)Both Mandrake and RedHat OFTEN require kernel compiles to get ACPI running, SuSE 8.x does not. SuSE out of the box generally figures out Sony laptops quite nicely, especially from 8.1 on. 2) He already told you that he had no net connection for that laptop so downloading all of RedHat or Mandrake is going to be a problem. 3) If you have no info specific to the problem, its best not to post at all, because all you do is add to the chatter while supplying no usefull information. To maherpaul: Shift to console 10 (ctrl-F10) just before you get to the place where it hangs, and watch what its doing to see is you can see what was running just before the lockup. -- ______________________________________ John Andersen NORCOM / Juneau, Alaska http://www.screenio.com/ (907) 790-3386 ._______________________________________ John S.
