If I put option dpms in my XF86Config like so:

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier   "Monitor0"
    VendorName   "Monitor Vendor"
    ModelName    "Monitor Model"
    Option       "dpms"
EndSection

I can turn the backlight off with "xset dpms force off". If I dont have
that option the backlight stays on.
