uhoh, evil mojo ... Re: Time for a new Project: FAN SPEED

Big uhoh.  No idea what did this.  But Jean, perhaps you have an idea?

The ONLY thing I've changed/done to my configuration is related to
lm_sensors and i2c -- adding those modules/etc.

For some reason, it appears (I'll test it by disabling the init.d script
and anything else you recommend?)  that something has managed to disable
my batteries.  Or better said, disabled the BIOS's ability to
automatically switch me from AC to battery power.

Symptoms & Discovery:

Started shutdown after getting lm_sensors to finally work.  I pulled my
AC chord out like I do sometimes when preparing to just drop my laptop
into its bag.  The laptop lost power completely.

So, I restarted my computer, leaving the AC unplugged.  I let it go
through the check drive integrity/etc.  At some point in bootup, it
suddenly lost power.  I repeated this twice -- happened at the same
spot.  Unfortunately it happened fast enough I wasn't able to tell
exactly where.  I have a suspicion it's related to the lm_sensors script
executing in my init.d which I have now disabled.  I've also disabled
the added modprobes and call to sensors -s.

I'm going to bed right now -- but when I reboot in the morning I'll do
it on battery power and see if this makes the difference..  if it
doesn't?

Oh, I booted into windows also, and it did just fine.  So, something,
somewhere in Linux is somehow disabling the batteries -- and it's doing
it now on bootup.

Kind of "cool" I suppose.  Somehow someone somewhere found a neat little
*OOPS* for turning the batteries off.  Now to keep it from doing that
again <g>

Oh -- AND when I plugged in the AC and booted up, it did just fine. 
Except one battery is partially discharged and it started recharging it
but at some point in bootup it stopped recharging it and now completely
ignores the batteries.
