Migrating /home from too small /dev/hda partition

Hello all,

A few days ago, I rambled about many things, one of
which was having too small a /home dir, living on its
own /dev/hda7 partion that in my lack of wisdom, I
made way too small (61M) on install.  Well, I managed
to move it, and at the risk of condecending, I'll go
through the process:

I copied /home to /opt/home, where I had lots of free
disk space.  (/opt/home was under /, a healthy 10GB)

I managed to get /home un'busy', either by umounting
/home, or by going into runlevel 1 (by "init 1" in
console.

I #'d out the mount line for /dev/hda7 on /home in
/etc/fstab

I did 'mv /opt/home /home'

I rebooted.  My graphical login choked, however,
because /home/dan didn't have write access, presumably
because I was slingin' dirs as root.  So, I had to
chmod -R /home.  (Without the -R recursive switch, kde
still didn't have write access, and choked in the same
fashion.)

So, now my /home has a nice, big home, and I have
/dev/hda7 (all 61 M of it) to do with what I will.

Hope this isn't too far off topic, but I was advised
that a reinstallation would be the best/only way to
fix my too-small /home.
