On a good connection, IEEE 802.11b should yield a raw data rate of 11 Mb/s and
useful throughput of almost 6 Mb/s.

If your airlink is so bad that you're only getting ~700 kb/s, you have other
problems to sort about.

Question to the group:

What does the power consumption of the new 802.11g cards look like.  802.11b
cards tend to shorten battery life considerably.  Are the 11g cards, with
their DSP engines for OFDM, appreciably worse?
