Hi John,

As I mentioned in my second email, nothing gets written to anything in
/var/log/ when the MS is inserted or removed.

It's got to be around there somewhere. 'cdrecord -scanbus' reports the
following (which is just another format of the 'lshw' output):

scsibus0:
        0,0,0 0) 'TOSHIBA ' 'DVD-ROM SD-R6012' '1S31' Removable CD-ROM
        0,1,0 1) *
        0,2,0 2) *
        0,3,0 3) *
        0,4,0 4) *
        0,5,0 5) *
        0,6,0 6) *
        0,7,0 7) *
scsibus1:
        1,0,0 100) 'Sony ' 'MSC-U03 ' '1.00' Removable Disk
        1,1,0 101) *
        1,2,0 102) *
        1,3,0 103) *
        1,4,0 104) *
        1,5,0 105) *
        1,6,0 106) *
        1,7,0 107) *

John, is yours coming up as a SCSI device or IDE? If SCSI, what /dev/
file do you use out of curiosity?

Thanks for the reply,

Mark
