external cd-rom

Many model of vaio comes with an external cd-rom conected by PCMCIA slot, and I was wondering if anyone of you could set this cd-rom to work as scsi simulated. I can make it work, in many distributions, without problem, and I can burn cd with the x-cdroast but in ATAPI way. and despite I've been giving a lot of work I just can't set the cd-rom as scsi. If any of you could do it, can you let me know how? The model of my computer is pcg-z505cr, it's the asian model for Vaio super-slim in usa and the australian z600TEK (i think). But I don't think the important thing here is the model, the main point is that the cd-rom is PCMCIA. Also, can anyone play music-cd?? I mena I've even tried with xmms-cdread and nothing.
