Oh, come on now, there is no reason to delete it, and that's NOT the 
way configuration issues are dealt with in Linux.

All that is needed is to configure grub or lilo to use the proper 
command line arguments for the kernal to load the one you
want.   Something like apm=off or such.  It varies by 
distro.

If the kernel is still trying to load it and doesn't find it its 
going to complain about that.
