Fans won't shut off/ACPI not working on SONY Vaio Desktop RX650

Hello,

I've got a Sony VAIO RX650 Desktop running Mandrake Linux 9.1

The fans wouldn't shut off, and ACPI couldn't handle my system with the
stock kernel, so I grabbed a fresh kernel, patched in the correct ACPI
(and supermount) patch for the version (2.4.21).

ACPI loads fine, and so does the ACPI daemon. It shows up on the lsmod,
and I don't see any error messages in the dmesg for ACPI. I heard that
installing ACPI rids me of this problem, but it doesn't. In fact, ACPI
doesn't seem to be detecting anything on my computer at all. /proc/acpi
shows very little. In fact, /proc/acpi shows only my CPU clock speed,
and empty directories for everything else.

An acpi -V command only shows:
No support for device type: thermal

Does anyone have any information or a me-too that would be useful to me?
This is really a thorn in my side.
